TEHRAN -- Foreign envoys of 20 countries have asked Iranian director Pari Saberi to stage “Rainbird” in their countries, the producer of the play announced on Tuesday.

The diplomats made their requests after watching the play at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall, Jahangir Kowsari told the Persian service of MNA.

Based on the Persian poet Ferdowsi’s magnum opus the Shahnameh, “Rainbird” tells the story of the battle between the evil ruler Zahhak and the mythical hero Kaveh.

Premiered with a cast of scores of actors in early May, the play will remain on stage at the hall until June 21.

“It is almost certain that the play will be performed in Germany, South Korea, China and Dubai,” he added.

Kowsari said that Saberi’s troupe will begin its performances in the countries from October.

“Due to the huge stage setting and the large cast of the play, it is difficult to provide the necessary coordination for the foreign performances, but we are certain about our performances in the four countries,” he stated.

Most of Saberi’s works are adaptations of masterpieces of Persian classical literature.

Over the past few years, Saberi has staged “Bijan and Manijeh” “Rustam and Sohrab”, “The Mourning of Siavash” and “The Seven Adventures of Rustam” based on Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh.

She has also directed “The Flying Shams” based on Rumi’s Masnavi and “Leyli and Majnun” based on the third poem in the pentology of Nezami.
