TEHRAN -- Russian lexicographer Herand Voskanian was honored with an honorable diploma by the Iranian cultural attaché’s office during a ceremony in Moscow on Tuesday evening.
Voskanian received the honor for the efforts he made to write the first Russian-Persian dictionary, which was published in 1986.
The ceremony was held on the sidelines of an Olympiad for Persian language and literature, the Iranian cultural attaché’s office announced on Wednesday.
“Writing a dictionary is very hard and it may take you years to write it,” said Voskanian in a short speech at the ceremony.
He provided an update to the dictionary, which has recently been published in Moscow. He spent five years to write the update, which consists of 11,000 words.
“Due to the expansion of the Russian and Persian languages in both countries over the past few decades, writing the dictionary is very significant,” Voskanian stated.
A member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Voskanian has authored many articles and papers on Persian literature.
