TEHRAN -- The family drama “Snow on the Pines” and the war drama “The Queen” were among the big winners at the Iranian Film Critics and Screenwriters Guild (IFCSG) celebration on Sunday evening.
“Snow on the Pines”, Peyman Moadi’s directorial debut film, won the best film award during the celebration held at Tehran’s Arasbaran Cultural Center.
“So far, surprisingly and unfortunately, the film has not been allowed (by cultural officials) to be screened. Let’s allow this kind of cinema to appear, too,” producer Jamal Sadatian said in his acceptance speech.
This film also brought director/writer Moadi the best screenplay award.
He dedicated the award to his father in his acceptance speech.
“He was an attorney who never accepted a divorce case. So, the foundation of a family was always my concern. Giving this award to me shows that I am not a promoter of infidelity,” Moadi said.
Over the past year, officials have imposed premiere restrictions on some films allegedly advocate infidelity.
The film is about Roya and Ali, a couple whose married life reaches a complete deadlock after 13 years.
Mahnaz Afshar won the best actress award for her portrayal of Roya.
Mohammad-Ali Basheh-Ahangar received the best director award for “The Queen”, a drama about the early days of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.
“I am proud to be honored at this celebration,” said Basheh-Ahangar, whose film was ignored over its alternative view of war during the Fajr international Film Festival in Tehran in February 2012.
The best actor award went to Mehdi Hashemi for comedy drama “Bulletproof”.
Veteran critic Jahanbakhsh Nuraii and filmmakers Dariush Mehrjuii and Nasser Taqvaii were honored for their lifetime achievements.
