TEHRAN -- A collection of posters by Iranian and Arab graphic designers is on display in an exhibition at Studio 1 in Berlin.

Entitled “Right-to-Left”, the exhibit represents typographic works by over 20 artists including Farhad Fozuni, Homa Delvaray, Iman Raad, Karim Lotfi, Maryam Palizgir, Maziar Pahlevan, Mehdi Saeidi, Mohamed Nabil Labib, Mouneer al Shaarani and Nadine Chahine.

Visual cultures in Iran were discussed during a meeting on the sidelines of the exhibit after an opening ceremony on November 9. Sharzad Changalvi, Aria Kasei, Peyman Purhosein, Iman Raad and Reza Abedini delivered speeches at the meeting.

The title of the project, “Right-to-Left”, simply refers to the writing direction of the Arabic and Persian script.

The exhibition and its related publication examine the path Arabic and Persian script is taking nowadays, spanning from the tradition of calligraphy and ornamentation to the current innovations in modern Arabic and Persian typefaces.

The exhibit, which runs until December 9, gives visitors a special insight into the creative potential and the visual cultures of the Arab world and Iran.
