TEHRAN -- A Russian translation of “Good Stories for Good Children”, the fascinating book by the Iranian children’s writer Mehdi Azar Yazdi, was unveiled during a ceremony at the Russian State Children’s Library in Moscow on Saturday.
The book was jointly printed by Russia’s Veche publishing house and Iran’s Amirkabir Publications, MNA reported on Sunday.
A group of Russian children, Veche editor-in-chief Sergey Dmitriev, Amirkabir Director Ahmad Nesari, Pushkin Library Foundation Director Maria Vedenyapina, and a number of Iranian diplomats attended the ceremony.
Nesari described Azar Yazdi as a prominent author in Persian children’s literature and said that the Russian translation of his book could help the expansion of Iran’s cultural activities in Russia.
The publication of the book is an important step to familiarize Russian children with Iranian culture and literature, Dmitriev said in a short speech at the ceremony.
Vedenyapina expressed her hope that the decision to publish the Russian translation of the Persian book would be a starting point for constant collaboration between Iran and the Russian State Children’s Library.
The ceremony came to an end with the reading of an excerpt from “Good Stories for Good Children” by Farangis Arianpur, one of the translators of the book.
Azar Yazdi (1921-2009) simplified stories from classic Persian masterpieces such as the Gulistan, Masnavi-e Manavi, Marzbannameh and Sinbadnameh to write “Good Stories for Good Children” in eight volumes.
It also comprises stories from the Holy Quran and the life of the Prophet Muhammad (S) and his Household (AS).
“Good Stories for Good Children” earned its author national fame. In addition, it won a UNESCO prize in 1966 and was selected as Iran’s book of the year in 1967.
