TEHRAN -- The 33rd Fajr Film Festival opened during a ceremony at Tehran’s Milad Tower last evening.
The ceremony began with reading a message from Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati, who congratulated Iranian cineastes on the inauguration of another edition of the festival and wished them luck at the event, which is Iran’s most prestigious festival in the motion picture industry.
The ceremony went on with the honoring of veteran Iranian actor Mohammad-Ali Keshavarz and cinematographer Hossein Jafarian with lifetime achievement awards.
Twenty-nine theaters and 13 cinema complexes host the festival, which runs until February 11.
Twenty four films compete during the festival and 11 movies premiere in the New Vision section, which is dedicated to screening works from first-time filmmakers.
“Sweet Taste of Dream” by Kamal Tabrizi, “I am Diego Maradona” by Bahram Tavakkoli, “The Fish’s Death” by Ruhollah Hejazi and “The Long Goodbye” by Farzad Motamen are among the competitors.
Director Amir-Hossein Asgari’s anti-war drama “Borderless”, Hamidreza Qotbi’s social drama “Rending a Garment” and Soheila Golestani’s social drama “Two” starring Parviz Parastuii are among the films going on screen at the New Vision section of the festival.
This is first time the national section of the festival will be held independently of the international competition section and at a different time.
The international section of the festival will be held from April 25 to May 2.
