TEHRAN – Four Iranian films will go on screen at the 18th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, which will be held in Estonia from November 14 to 30.
Iranian filmmaker Reza Mirkarimi’s social drama “Today” will compete with 17 other movies in the international section of the festival.
The film, which is about a Tehran taxi driver, who becomes the impromptu protector of a desperate young pregnant woman after he rushes her to hospital, is Iran’s submission for the best foreign language film category at the 88th Academy Awards in 2015.
“Tales” by Rakhshan Bani-Etemad will be shown in the Screen International Critic Choice section.
The film contains seven short episodes, in which Bani-Etemad reveals the fate of some of the female characters in her previous films like “The Blue-Veiled”, “Under the Skin of the City” and “Mainline”, and also people who represent the different layers of society.
“I’m not Angry” by Reza Dormishian will be screened in the Panorama section.
The film is the story of Navid, an expelled university student who tries to provide the minimum requirements of a normal life, cope with numerous difficulties in Tehran, and does all he can so as not to lose his love, Setareh.
“A Few Cubic Meters of Love” by Jamshid Mahmudi, which is a joint production of Iran and Afghanistan, will also go on screen at the Focus on Hot Topics section.
The film is about Saber, a young Iranian worker, who secretly meets Marona, daughter of Abdolsalam, an Afghan worker in a small factory that illegally employs Afghan asylum seekers in the outskirts of Tehran, which leads to a conclusion that no one could foretell.
One of the largest in Northern Europe, the festival is among the 50 leading film festivals of the world.
