TEHRAN -- The 20th Kolkata International Film Festival plans to screen films from Iranian actress and director Niki Karimi in the New Horizon section, the organizers announced on Saturday.
From her acting career “Sara” (1992) and “Pari” (1995) by Dariush Mehrjui, and “Two Women” (1999), “Hidden Half” (2001) and “Fifth Reaction” (2003) by Tahmineh Milani will be screened.
Her directorial productions “One Night” and “Final Whistle” have also been selected for the section.
Karimi has been selected for the jury of the festival, which opens today and will run until November 17.
Four other cineastes from different countries will be joining her on the festival jury.
Australian filmmaker Paul Cox, Chinese film actress and director Renhua Na, Indian film actor and director Amol Palekar, and film actress, writer and director from Georgia Nino Kirtadze are the other members.
Niki Karimi rose to fame by acting in Behruz Afkhami’s hit “Bride” in 1990. She appeared in films by Dariush Mehrjuii, Masud Kimiaii and several other prominent Iranian filmmakers.
She made her directorial debut in 2001 with “To Have or Not to Have”, a documentary on a number of infertile Iranian couples trying to have children.
