TEHRAN – An exhibition, featuring a collection of photos of Iranian children from all walks of life during the Qajar and Pahlavi periods, is underway at the library of Hosseinieh Ershad, a major mosque and cultural center in Tehran.

Entitled “Iranian Children in the Course of History”, the collection, comprised of 120 photos, reflects the life of children in different regions and families across the country, the Persian service of FNA reported on Sunday.

Children from poor and rich families, child laborers, children with special needs, children’s schools, and children’s toys are all reflected in the show.

The art of photography was introduced to Iran in the late nineteenth century featuring the distinguished images of the Qajar royal family.

After the art of photography flourished during the reign of Nasser ad-Din Shah of the Qajar dynasty, it gradually found ways into the lives of ordinary people and photo galleries opened in every corner of the large cities.

The photos on display are regarded important sources for study and research, since they portray the process of change that has occurred in the meaning of the concept of childhood in Iran.

Organized by the Children’s Book Council of Iran, the exhibit has been organized on the sidelines of a seminar on children’s literature held in Hosseinieh Ershad last week.
