TEHRAN -- The Iran-Tajikistan Friendship Society plans to establish a foundation on Persian mystic and poet Mir Seyyed Ali bin Shahab-ud-Din Hamadani (1314-1385).
“We plan to set up a foundation on Mir Seyyed Ali Hamadani in collaboration with Tajikistan,” the director of the society, Ali-Ashraf Mojtahed Shabestari, said on Saturday.
He made the remarks during an international conference on Seyyed Ali Hamadani, which was held at the National Museum of Iran in Tehran.
“We know little about him in Iran. He was one of the descendants of Imam Hussein (AS) and according to the Islamic calendar, organizing his commemoration during these days is appropriate,” he said.
“Over 90 books written by Mir Seyyed Ali Hamadani have been recognized in Hamedan and I have recently heard that 37 of his books are ready for publication in Tajikistan,” he added.
The conference was organized jointly by the Iran-Tajikistan Friendship Society, Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, and the Iranian National Commission For UNESCO to commemorate the 700th birth anniversary of Mir Seyyed Ali Hamadani.
UNESCO had registered the occasion on its celebration list of anniversaries for 2014.
Mir Seyyed Ali Hamadani was born in the western Iranian city of Hamedan and died in Tajikistan. He was buried in the southern Tajik city of Kulob.
He was very influential in spreading Islam in Kashmir and had a major hand in shaping the culture of the Kashmir valley.
