Works by Iranian photographer on display at French anti-war exhibit

TEHRAN – Two works by Iranian photographer Gohar Dashti have been selected for an anti-war group exhibition, which is currently underway at the Louvre-Lens, an art museum located in Lens, Pas-de-Calais, Northern France.

 

Entitled “Disasters of War”, the exhibit showcases artworks about wars that have occurred between the years 1800 to 2014. 

 

The photos have been selected from Dashti’s series “Today’s Life and War”, she told the Persian service of ISNA on Tuesday.

 

She has remade abstract scenes from the aftermath of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war in the series, which was created in 2008. 

 

“Photos about Iran-Iraq war rarely find their ways into the world photo exhibits, so this is a positive achievement that the photos were selected for this exhibit,” she said.

 

This exhibition looks at how artists contributed to a growing disenchantment with war, the museum has written on its website.

 

“In twelve sequences, the exhibition charts the major milestones in this little-known history, through some twenty conflicts and 450 works by almost 200 artists,” the website explains.

 

The exhibit, which opened on May 28, will be running until October 6. 

 

Dashti has received her M.A. in photography from the University of Tehran in 2005. 

 

She has held various exhibitions around the world, and her works have been displayed in many museums, festivals and biennales.
