TEHRAN – Iran’s “Berlin -7”, about an Iraqi family forced to emigrate in the aftermath of the U.S.-led war, will be competing in two international film festivals in Spain and Brazil in October.
A production of the Visual Media Institute, the film will first be screened in the competition section of the 58th edition of the Valladolid International Film Festival running from October 19 to 26 in Spain.
It will also go on screen in the Sao Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil running from October 18 to 31, the institute announced in a press release on Tuesday.
Directed by Ramtin Lavafipur, most of the film has been shot in Berlin with an Iranian-German cast.
The film tells the story of Atef whose wife is killed during the war. His son, Kazem, who witnesses his mother’s death, is suffering from a form of mental shock, and his daughter, Najmeh, is arrested by Iraqi forces on suspicion of planning acts of sabotage.
They finally leave their country to seek refuge in Berlin. However, some other problems arise.
The film premiered in Tehran at the 31st Fajr International Film Festival in February 2013.
