International Visual Arts Festival for Youth kicks off in Gorgan

TEHRAN – The 19th International Visual Arts Festival for Youth opened Tuesday in the northern Iranian city of Gorgan where 38 foreign artists from over 20 countries will be competing with Iranian participants.
 
The opening ceremony took place at the Fakhreddin As’ad Gorgani Hall of Gorgan attended by the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini and director of Golestan Department of Culture and Islamic Guidance Gholamreza Montazeri, Persian news agencies reported on Tuesday.
 
Artists ranging in age from 16 to 25 coming from Tajikistan, Kuwait, Zimbabwe, Italy, Kenya, Armenia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Austria and several other countries will be competing with 320 young artists from different Iranian provinces during the event, Montazeri said previously in a press conference.
 
The festival features sections for drawing, painting, calligraphy, miniature, sculpture, cartoons, photography and illustration.
 
Several workshops and street paintings are also scheduled during the festival, which will be running until Friday.
 
Karim Nasr, Morteza Zahedi and Mohammad-Ali Bani-Asadi will be judging the artworks in the illustration category, and the graphic designs will be judged by Bahram Kalhornia, Hossein Noruzi and Mehdi Rahimi.
 
Several programs have also been arranged on the side-section of the festival.
