TEHRAN – A collection of photos on the Islamic Revolution is currently on display in an exhibition at Tehran’s Mellat Cinematic Complex.
The collection entitled “Enqelab Avenue” (Revolution Avenue) is composed of 40 works by the celebrated Iranian cinematographer Mahmud Kalari.
“In the winter of 1979, I accompanied the people rallying through the squares of Baharestan, Shohada, Imam Hussein and Ferdowsi to take the photos,” Kalari said during the opening ceremony of the exhibit last week.
“Eventually, I saw myself in front of the University of Tehran among the large crowd of protesters, who headed to Azadi Square,” he added.
“I felt that the revolution in this manner was like a historical path called Enqelab Avenue,” he stated.
In 1979, all demonstrations against the Pahlavi monarch, Mohammad Reza, always led to 24 Esfand Square and Shahreza Street, which were later renamed Enqelab Square and Enqelab Street after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Kalari’s exhibition runs until February 10.
The “Enqelab Avenue” exhibition was also held at the complex in 2009.
