
His rugs explore designs he culled from the tribal and nomadic arts and culture of Iran. In addition, love, poets, lions, birds and cages are the central themes of his works in this collection.
He also draws inspiration from traditional Persian literature, most notably the mythological stories of King Hushang, Farhad the Mountain Carver and Sheikh San’an.
The exhibition will be held from January 15 until February 28.
Tanavoli is one of the founders of the Saqqakhaneh School, an artistic movement that began in Iran during the 1960s. This movement sought to integrate popular symbols of Shia Muslim culture in art.
In 1973, Tanavoli founded the Tehran Rug Society, organizing two tribal weaving exhibitions in 1975 and 1976.
Dubai’s Etemad Gallery held an exhibition of his Persian carpet collection in December 2011.
