TEHRAN – An Iranian theater troupe is scheduled to perform “The Thousand Paper Cranes”, about Sadako Sasaki, a victim of the U.S. atomic attack on Hiroshima, at Tehran’s Honar Theater from January 6 to 9.

Amir Naqavi and Dorsa Sadr-e Mohammadi will jointly direct the Children of World Theater Troupe.

Diba Ekhlaspur, Radin Azamian, Parsa Parichehreh, Sara Ramezani, Taha Shams, Satiya Nikukar, Parsa Nazeri and Baran Yusefi are among the members of the all-child cast.

Sadako Sasaki was two years old when Hiroshima was bombed.

At the age of 11, she was diagnosed with leukemia, which developed as a result of the radiation from the atomic bomb.

Sadako spent her time in a nursing home creating origami cranes in hope of making a thousand of them. She was inspired to do so by the Japanese legend that one who created a thousand origami cranes would then be granted a wish. Her wish was simply to live.

However, she managed to fold only 644 cranes before she became too weak to fold any more, and died on the 25th of October 1955 in the morning. Her friends and family helped finish her dream by folding the rest of the cranes.

Honar Theater is located on Varzande St., off Southern Mofatteh Ave. near Haft-e Tir Square.
