Iranian cartoonist gets Silver Feather in her cap at German contest

TEHRAN -- Iranian cartoonist Parya Puladvand won a Silver Feather at Grafikatur 2012, an international cartoon competition held in Lübben, Germany.
 
Her winning work, which depicts a classroom scene, is currently on display in an exhibition at Lübben’s City Hall.
 
This is the second time Puladvand has been honored at this contest. She also won a Silver Feather in 2010. 
 
The deaf born 26-year-old artist is a discipleof the renowned Iranian cartoonist Bahman Abdi.
 
“Parya is a studious artist. I have written the points on the paper for her and she always does the patterns completely,” he told the Persian service of the Fars News Agency on Tuesday.
 
Parya was interested in animated films since her childhood and she has created many cartoons during her art career over the past decade, her brother Ali told Fars.
 
The theme of the competition was “education”. Some 648 cartoons by 277 artists from 52 countries were displayed in recent months at City Hall.
 
German cartoonist Peter Dunsch won a Golden Feather and Klaus Pitter from Austria received a Bronze Feather. 
 
The Grafikatur exhibition runs until January 2013.
