APSA honors Iranian cameraman Turaj Aslani

TEHRAN -- Iranian cameraman Turaj Aslani has won the award for Achievement in Cinematography at the Sixth Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).
 
He received the award for “Rhino Season”, a co-production between Iraqi-Kurdistan and Turkey, organizers announced on Friday during a glittering ceremony at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane, Australia.
 
In September 2012, Aslani also won the prize for best cinematography at the San Sebastian Film Festival for this film, which was directed by Iranian filmmaker Bahman Qobadi.
 
APSA Best Feature Film award went to “Beyond the Hill”, a Turkey-Greece coproduction, which was written and directed by Emin Alper.
 
Brillante Mendoza from the Philippines won the Achievement in Directing prize for “Thy Womb” and Nora Aunor took home the Best Performance by an Actress award for her role in this film.
 
Winner of Best Performance by an Actor was Choi Min-Sik for “Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time” from South Korea.
 
Turkish writer/director Reis Celik received the award for Best Screenplay for “Night of Silence”. 
 
In 2012, the APSA International Jury awarded two Screen International Jury Grand Prizes. APSA Academy member and three-time APSA-nominated writer/director/producer Anurag Kashyap from India received the award for directing “Gangs of Wasseypur”. South Korean actress Cho Min-Soo was awarded for her performance in Kim Ki-Duk’s Korean film “Pieta”.
