TEHRAN -- Composer and conductor Nader Mashayekhi will return to the stage with a Shahnameh musical five years after he was dismissed from of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra.
He will compose music for “The Story of Siavosh”, a musical which will be staged by director Hamidreza Afshar during the Fajr International Theater Festival in Tehran in February, the Persian service of MNA reported on Tuesday.
A 25-member cast will perform the musical, which is based on the Shahnameh, the epic masterpiece of the Persian poet Ferdowsi.
Mashayekhi will hire musicians to perform live during the performances of the play.
Mashayekhi, who used to live in Vienna, was invited to conduct the Tehran Symphony Orchestra in 2005.
However, he was dismissed from the orchestra following his complaints over low salaries and delays in payment of wages of the orchestra‘s musicians.
Ali Rahbari had already quit conducting the orchestra for the same reason.
