TEHRAN -- “Final Whistle”, an Iranian drama on social and private life interactions, was crowned best film at the International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg in Germany on Monday.
Directed by Niki Karimi, the movie went on screen at the international section of the festival.
The jury called the film a bold movie, which “makes it clear that no one can be happy and free when a life is lost”.
“Final Whistle” is about a documentarian couple, Sahar and Saman, who have their calm life disrupted. Sahar is informed that the mother of one of their cast members faces a death sentence due to a murder charge. She then begins to try to convince the relatives of the decedent to overturn the sentence.
“Final Whistle” won three awards at the 18th FICA -- Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema in February 2012.
The film won the Emile Guimet Award, which was granted by the Friends of the National Museum of Asian Arts of Paris.
The National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations in Paris also presented Karimi a jury award.
In addition, the film received the Youth Award at the Commune of Vesoul.
