TEHRAN -- Veteran Iranian actor Mohammad-Ali Keshavarz and the cinematographer Hossein Jafarian will be honored during the 33rd Fajr Film Festival.
The festival will honor two veteran artists for their achievements in Iranian cinema, festival secretary Alireza Rezadad said during a press conference on Sunday morning.
Jafarian worked as the director of photography for the acclaimed films “About Elly” by Asghar Farhadi, “Gold and Copper” by Homayun Asadian, and “Che” by Ebrahim Hatamikia.
Mohammad-Ali Keshavarz, 84, has played several memorable roles in Iranian cinema. Among his credits are “Mother” and “Love-Stricken” by Ali Hatami.
“We also plan to honor the owners of some film laboratories,” he added.
He said that three separate books will be published on the honorees.
A total of 29 theaters and 13 cinematic complexes will host the festival, which will be held from February 1 to 11, he said.
Majid Majidi’s “Muhammad (S)” will premiere at the opening ceremony of the festival on February 1.
Twenty four films will compete in this edition of the festival and 11 movies will premiere in the New Vision section, which is dedicated to screening works from first-time filmmakers.
“Sweet Taste of Dream” by Kamal Tabrizi, “I am Diego Maradona” by Bahram Tavakkoli, “The Fish’s Death” by Ruhollah Hejazi and “The Long Goodbye” by Farzad Motamen are among the competitors.
Director Amir-Hossein Asgari’s anti-war drama “Borderless”, Hamidreza Qotbi’s social drama “Rending a Garment”, and Soheila Golestani’s social drama “Two” starring Parviz Parastuii are among the films, which will go on screen at the New Vision section of the festival.
This is first time the national section of the festival will be held independently of the international competition section and at a different time.
The international section of the festival will be held from April 25 to May 2.
