Musician Mostafa Kamal Purtorab honored

TEHRAN -- The Persian literary monthly Bokhara paid tribute to musician and composer Mostafa Kamal Purtorab, famous for his book “Theory of Music”, during a ceremony at the Mahmud Afshar Foundation on Saturday.
 
The ceremony was attended by a number of literati including Managing Director of Bokhara Ali Dehbashi, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Music Office Mohammad Sarir, and musicians Nader Mashayekhi, and Davud Ganjeii.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, Sarir praised Purtorab for his efforts over the past 70 years to train students who are seriously active in the field of music now.
 
“Most of those who are currently active in music were either directly or indirectly his students,” he added.
 
He called Purtorab one of the distinguished musicians of the country who relied on national music, and who used world music as a tool for him to develop and promote national music.
 
Composer Nader Mashayekhi who was once the conductor of Tehran Symphony Orchestra, expressed his gratitude to his master Purtorab for giving him the courage to pursue the activity he liked.
 
House of Music Director Hamidreza Nurbakhsh said in his short speech that he regarded Purtorab a clear example of a fine man in different moral, academic and artistic aspects, and said “Purtorab is a good symbol in all dimensions”.
 
He added that the master has made lengthy efforts to develop the academic education of the members of the House of Music.
 
Purtorab expressed his thanks to organizers of the event and asked the officials to pay due attention to the academic education of young musicians.
 
The book “Theory of Music” has been published by Cheshmeh Publications.
