TEHRAN – The self-taught painter and sculptor Hassan Hazer-Mashar died of cardiac arrest on Sunday. He was 91.
Born in the northern Iranian town of Masuleh, Hazer-Mashar began working as a carpenter when he was 16.
His skills in this work led him to begin a career in making wooden sculpture. He also tried his hand at painting, creating many works in this medium in obscurity.
He was introduced by cartoonist Kambiz Derambakhsh about ten years ago.
His works have been exhibited at many of Tehran’s galleries, including Golestan, Homa, Ashyan-e Naqsh-o-Mehr and Laleh.
