National Biennial of Persian Painting kicks off in Tehran

TEHRAN -- Ninth edition of the Iranian National Biennial of Persian Painting was inaugurated at Tehran’s Saba Art and Cultural Institute on Saturday evening.
 
Deputy Culture Minister for Artistic Affairs Ali Moradkhani, Director of the Center for Visual Arts of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Majid Mollanoruzi and a number of veteran artists attended the opening ceremony, Persian media reported on Sunday.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, Moradkhani called participation of veterans at the biennial a good occurrence.
 
He said that some of the veterans were surprised to see highly skilled novices active in the art of miniature, calling it the beginning of a new era in Persian painting.
 
He also pointed to recent developments in Persian painting and said that specific programs are needed to gain better results.
 
He also proposed to dedicate time for the study of this art and arrange future programs to promote Persian painting.
 
A collection of Persian paintings in five different categories including miniature, illumination and gol-o-morgh -- a unique style of Persian painting featuring bird and floral motifs in different colors have been put on display at the exhibit.
 
A valuable book containing works by the participants as well as works by the masters and veterans is scheduled to be published during the exhibit.
 
The exhibit will run until December 31 at the institute, which is located on Mozaffar St., off Taleqani Ave., near Felestin Square.
