Winners of Nelson Mandela poster exhibit announced

TEHRAN – Winners of the international exhibition of posters focusing on the liberation struggle icon Nelson Mandela were announced during a ceremony held at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran on Friday.
 
Omran Abdollahi, Behnam Raisian, Reihaneh Alaii, Farnaz Damnabi and Elaheh Abiyat were the Iranian winners of the poster exhibit “Nelson Mandela, Liberty Pigeon”, IAF has announced on its website.
 
Designers Arber Kolonja (Macedonia), Marlena Buczek Smith (United States) and Jerome Rebiere-Desveaux (France) were named the international winners.
 
The award of the French winner was handed to the French cultural attaché Thierry Vielle, who attended the opening ceremony.
 
United Nations Resident Coordinator in Iran Gary Lewis took Kolonja’s award for his part, and the American winner’s award was submitted to the Swiss embassy in Tehran.
 
A total of 76 posters by 63 artists from 22 countries including Iran, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Italy, Britain, Peru and Turkey are on show in the week-long exhibit.
 
Veteran Iranian poster designer Ebrahim Haqiqi, and the director of the Foreign Ministry Department for African Affairs, Valiollah Mohammad-Nasrabadi were among the guests of the opening ceremony.
 
Mandela died on December 5, 2013 at the age of 95 after months of struggling with an illness.
