TEHRAN – Iranian kamancheh virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor and Indian sitar virtuoso Shujaat Husain Khan plan to perform Persian and Indian improvisations at their New York concert on March 22, 2015.
Indian tabla player Sandeep Das will also join the performance, which will take place in the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University, the center has announced on its webpage.
The Ghazal Ensemble, which was formed in 1997 by Kalhor and Husain Khan, has been touring the world and has been lauded for creating an original, delicate blend of Indo-Persian fusion.
Kalhor has composed works for Iran’s most renowned vocalists Mohammadreza Shajarian and Shahram Nazeri, and has also performed and recorded with Iran’s greatest instrumentalists.
He is considered an eminent ambassador of Persian music, and is known for stirring improvisations, exquisite compositions and extensive collaborations.
Shujaat Husain Khan is one of today’s greatest North Indian artists, who represent the seventh generation of illustrious musicians, which includes his father, the great sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan.
