TEHRAN -- Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati has lamented over the shortage of media knowledge and the information gap in the Islamic world.
He addressed the opening ceremony of the 10th Islamic Conference of Information Ministers, which was held in Tehran on Wednesday with the motto “Media Convergence for Peace and Calm in the Islamic World.”
He said that everybody knows about the key role the media are playing in the world and added, “The globalization of the media has increased without limit the quantity of information, and undoubtedly, information sharing seriously affects social and personal lives as well as international relations.”
Jannati also added that Western media enjoy a monopoly on the internet to disseminate biased information about Muslim nations.
“This attitude has caused discrimination and injustice against Muslim communities in other countries” he added.
“The Islamic world is suffering from lack of media knowledge and an information gap, and Islamic nations should expand their media and information connections in order to efficiently fight against the divisive policies of the enemies,” he stated.
“No single country in the Islamic world is able to fight against these policies by itself. A united effort and collective action is the sole way to shape a bright future for Islamic ummah. For the Islamic world, cooperation is not a choice, but it is a necessity,” he noted.
The 10th Islamic Conference of Information Ministers comes to an end today.
