TEHRAN -- Most of the works by Iranian cartoonist Kambiz Derambakhsh were sold on the opening day of an exhibition at Tehran’s Seyhun Gallery on Friday.
A selection of 31 cartoons are on display in the exhibition entitled “Art and Artist”, out of which 25 were sold during the very first few hours, Derambaksh told the Persian service of ISNA on Saturday.
“Most of the works were done over the past two months,” Derambakhsh said, adding that the works are offered at reasonable prices to give people a chance to purchase the works.
People were lining up outside the gallery to see the works a few hours before the gallery was opened, he said.
He also suggested that art students and graphic designers see his works.
“The artworks make the visitors smile. Different aspects of art like people and art, economy of art, and gallery owners and curators are among the topics highlighted in the collection,” he said.
Director of the Center for Visual Arts of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Majid Mollanoruzi, also attended the opening ceremony.
Derambakhsh, 72, has recently received the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, the highest decoration awarded by the French government.
The artist has previously held many exhibits across the world and his works are on display in many museums, including the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, Istanbul’s Museum of Cartoon and Comic, and the Cartoonmuseum Basel in Switzerland.
His exhibit will run for two weeks at the gallery located at No. 11, 4th Alley, Vozara St.
