TEHRAN – The book “Seven Screenplays from Asghar Farhadi” by Cheshmeh Publications was introduced during a ceremony at the Kurosh Cinema Complex on Saturday evening.

A large number of fans, cineastes, and film critics attended the ceremony, which Farhadi called a big surprise, Persian media reported on Sunday.

The book contains the screenplays “Dancing in the Dust”, “Beautiful City”, “Firework Wednesday”, “About Elly”, “A Separation” and “The Past”, all of which were directed by Farhadi.

It also carries the screenplay “Tambourine”, which was directed by Farhadi’s wife, Parisa Bakhtavar.

“I thought it would be a simple ceremony, and I didn’t imagine this ceremony would be so well attended,” Farhadi said, expressing his thanks to all those who attended.

The Oscar-winning director Farhadi added that most of his screenplays emerged from within his subconscious mind, claiming that he himself is not aware how things happen and how he moves from one point to another in his works.

He continued that persistence and perseverance are the two significant elements in screenwriting and the emotional data bank filled during childhood helps authors subconsciously.

Filmmaker Amirshahab Razavian in his short speech praised Farhadi’s determination and called him the product of several positive events in Iran’s cinema.

Film critic Ali Mo’allem also mentioned that Farhadi helped add “thriller” to the social cinema of Iran.

Farhadi also observes rhythm in his story telling, an element that has caused his works to attract the world’s attention, he added.

Farhadi’s “A Separation” won the 2012 Oscar for best foreign film.
