TEHRAN – The Iranian family drama “13” won the NETPAC Award at the 30th Warsaw Film Festival, which was held from October 10 to 19.
The film was honored for “its daring approach in representing the much-depicted theme of the young adult in Iranian cinema and its unique style in expressing social rage and gender issues through the life of a family,” the jury members said in a statement, which was published at the closing ceremony of the festival.
Directed by Hooman Seyyedi, the film is about a 13-year-old boy’s loneliness and rebellious rage over the violence that surrounds him.
“13” and South Korean filmmaker Kim Daehwan’s “End of Winter” shared the New Currents Award at the 19th Busan Film Festival last week.
The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award is given at selected international film festivals to promote Asian cinema by spotlighting exceptional films and discovering new talents.
Chinese filmmaker Xin Yukun’s “The Coffin in the Mountain” was picked as the best film of the Warsaw Film Festival.
The film is about a young man who tries to get away from his family’s overwhelming power, but when he accidentally kills a local thug, his fate is intricately linked to his father’s.
