TEHRAN -- The Iran Cinema Organization (ICO) plans to establish regulations to control hijab, the Islamic dress code, for Iranian actresses participating in international events.

“Unfortunately, there are no such rules, but we plan soon to commence setting specific instructions for this issue,” ICO Director Javad Shamaqdari told the Persian service of IRNA on Saturday.

He said that all female Iranian cineastes in national and foreign events are required to observe the regulations.

Over the past few years, certain Persian news websites have published pictures showing Iranian actresses without or with a slight hijab at international events. The actresses have been censured for their appearance by the websites and the cultural officials.
