TEHRAN -- Art Bureau Director Mohsen Momeni-Sharif has said that Turks have played a significant role in the expansion of the Persian language over the past few centuries.

He made the remarks in a meeting with a number of Turkish university officials and academics who are currently visiting Tehran, the bureau announced in a press release on Sunday.

“The Persian language has always been famous as the second language of Islam and the Turkish Muslims have supported Persian language anytime they have established a new government.

“The Persian language was spoken even during the Ottoman Empire and some Ottoman kings composed poetry in Persian,” he continued.

The Ataturk University’s vice Rector Professor Mehmet Sadi Cogenli praised the words by Momeni-Sharif and said that any bad events happening in the world of Islam and among the Muslim nations would shrink the world of Islam, “the only way to prevent this is the unity of the Muslim nations”.

In older times, the Muslims were more united and had made more progress, he said, adding that increased unity is required today.
The Vice Rector of Mus Alparslan University, Professor Osman Ozcan also emphasized that the Holy Quran can help save the unity of the Muslims.

The academics that arrived in Tehran on Friday are scheduled to visit several Iranian universities during their stay and hold talks on bilateral academic cooperation.

The delegation will stay in Tehran for one week at the invitation of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO).
