TEHRAN -- An Iranian cultural festival is currently underway at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome.
Calligraphy works by Mohammad Sadat-Kiaii and a collection of Iranian handicrafts have been put on display in exhibitions during the festival, which opened on Monday.
Iran’s cultural attaché Qorbanali Purmarjan and Salesian Pontifical University Rector Carlo Nanni delivered speeches about Persian calligraphy during the opening ceremony of the festival.
Purmarjan said that Iranian artists have tried to present the beauties of the Persian and Arabic styles of calligraphy through writing verses of the Holy Quran.
“You see some examples of these works in these exhibitions,” he added.
Nanni described the calligraphy exhibition as a good opportunity for students of the university to be acquainted with Islamic art.
“Iranian movies and such art opens a new window for us to praise the beautiful country of Iran, which I hope to visit some day,” he said.
The Faculty of Social Communications of the university is scheduled to screen some Iranian films during the festival, which runs until November 2.
Among the films are “Gold and Copper” by Hamayun As’adian, “A Separation” by Asghar Farhadi and “The Son of Maryam” by Hamid Jebeli.
The festival has been organized by the Iranian cultural attaché’s office in Rome.
