TEHRAN – Austrian filmmaker Andreas Prochaska’s “Sarajevo”, a TV movie about the assassination of archduke of Austria Franz Ferdinand that led to the outbreak of World War I, has won three awards in the international competition section of the Second Jasmine International Video Film Festival.
“Sarajevo” also was crowned best film and Prochaska was presented with the best director award during the closing ceremony of the festival, which was held in the northern Iranian city of Amol on Thursday.
In addition, the film gained the best actor award for Florian Teichtmeister.
Iranian actress Rabee Madani received the best actress award for her role in “Green like Emerald” by director Ruhollah Hejazi, while Hejazi won the best artistic and technical achievement award in this section.
The special jury award was given to director Hamidreza Qorbani for his “Three Fish”.
“Three Fish” received more awards in several categories of the national section, including best director, best editing, and best sound recording.
In the national section, Hassan Akhundpur, Rauf Dashti and Ali Hataminejad shared the best screenplay award for “Angel”, while Davud Rahmani and Mahbubeh Soltani shared the best stage and costume design award for “Angel”.
The closing ceremony was accompanied with a short speech delivered by director of the Cinema Organization of Iran Hojjatollah Ayyubi.
“We have always tried to speak with the people across the world through the language of art, and today we are honored to say that we are one of the few countries in the Middle East that speaks the language of cinema,” he said.
“Cinema is a good opportunity and we need to provide the facilities for all those who make films despite all its difficulties.
“We must believe that this cinema needs to be supported and we must know that Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei is interested in cinema and watches films and reads screenplays, and that he is a big supporter of Iran’s cinema,” he added.
The second edition of the festival ran in Tehran and Amol from August 23 to 28.
