TEHRAN -- Cinéma Vérité, the Iranian international festival for documentary films, has announced the lineup for the international competition.

A total of 32 documentaries from 14 countries will go on screen in this section of the festival, festival secretary Shafi Aqamohammadian said during a press conference on Monday.

He is the director the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC), which is the main organizer of the festival.

“The Great Lovers” directed by Nagehan Cakar from Turkey, “Paparazzi” by Piotr Bernas and “A Mangled Press” by Adrianna Dunin-Wasowicz from Poland are among the short documentaries of this section.

The lineup also includes “Crayons of Askalan” by Leila Hoteit from Spain, “The Distorted Lens: The Media and the Middle East” by Kai Lawrence from Germany and “Where Is My Mother Tongue?” by Osman Sisman and Ozlem Sariyildiz from Turkey.

Several feature-length documentaries including “The Ambassador” by Mads Brügger from Denmark, “Children of Napf” by Alice Schmid from Switzerland and “Where Heaven Meets Hell” by Sasha Friedlander will go on screen during the festival.

Over 200 Iranian documentaries and 70 foreign films will go on screen during the festival, which will take place in Tehran from November 3 to 10.

This year the cash prizes in the international competition will be paid in rials, Aqamohammadian said.

“To respect the national currency, we decided to pay the cash prize in rials this year,” he stated.

Thus, the best film will be awarded 150 million rials (about $4500).

Cinéma Vérité had paid the cash prizes in dollars in previous editions.
