TEHRAN – An Iranian director has completed the shooting of a documentary on an exquisite Persian carpet, which, among others, is displayed annually during Gion Matsuri, a traditional festival that is held in Kyoto, Japan in July.

The carpet was presented by the Safavid dynasty (1501–1736) to the Japanese court.

The documentary entitled “In the Dust of History” was directed by Masumeh Nurmohammadi in the Japanese city of Kyoto and the Iranian cities of Tehran and Isfahan, Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) announced in a press release on Sunday.

The carpet is a symbol of power and beauty in the parade, Nurmohammadi said in the press release.

The documentary explores the place of Persian carpets during the Safavid era as well as the relationship between the two countries.

The documentary, which has been produced by the DEFC, is currently being edited for screening.
