TEHRAN -- The Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance announced on Sunday that Iran’s bill on controlling Internet websites is being amended by a team of experts and officials.

Based on the new amendments, the members of the Committee for Determining Illegal Acts will increase from 5 to 13, Culture Minister Ali Jannati said in a press release.

The committee will decide to block or unblock a website, he stated.

However, he said that the members may consider their personal views in their decisions.

The amendments are aimed to legalize Iranian users’ access to some online social network services such as Facebook and twitter, and other internet services such as WhatsApp and Viber, which are currently illegal in Iran.
