TEHRAN -- Hotel Elefant, a New York-based ensemble, will perform several compositions by Iranian composer Sahba Aminikia in its September concert “speakOUT” in New York.

The ensemble will perform the pieces “The Tragedy of Sohrab”, “In Haste” and “Once Upon a Time Tehran” in Poisson Rouge, a music venue in New York City, American-based Aminikia told the Persian service of ISNA on Sunday.

“The Tragedy of Sohrab” is based on the story of Rustam and Sohrab from Ferdowsi’s masterpiece Shahnameh, and “Once Upon a Time Tehran” features the unrest and tension of urban life in the capital Tehran, he explained.

Compositions by several members of the ensemble including Leaha Maria Villarreal and Mary Kouyoumdjian, have also been selected for the concert on September 14.

Born in 1981 in Tehran, Aminikia studied music composition in Russia at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. He currently lives and studies in the United States.

Formed in 2011 by composers Leaha Maria Villarreal and Mary Kouyoumdjian, Hotel Elefant ambitiously presents new music through commissions, performances, and moderated discussions between composers, performers, and audiences.
