TEHRAN -- The grandchild of Bibi Haazer Omidvari says that gallery goers were impressed by the exhibition which was held by his 88-year-old doll maker grandmother at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF).
“The exhibition of Bibi’s dolls was so warmly welcomed that it was extended twice,” Bahman Abbaspur told the Persian service of ISNA on Thursday.
The IAF displayed 250 dolls by Bibi Haazer, a self-taught artist from the southern Iranian city of Shiraz, from June 28 until July 8. Two hundred dolls of Bibi’s collection were sold at the exhibition.
She creates her works based on characters from Iranian folk tales. She was present at the exhibition, narrating some of the stories for visitors.
The show, which was to have ended on July 4, was extended by four days.
Visitors from a New York-based school, which is holding Farsi language programs for children, proposed to organize a similar exhibit for Bibi’s works at their school, Abbaspur said.
In addition, the Center for Strategic Relations and International Affairs of the Tehran Municipality has suggested publishing a biography of Bibi and the tales of her dolls, he added.
“Bibi was very impressed by the positive feedback she got from her exhibit and told me, ‘From now on, I will create more dolls, but you must promise to arrange another show for my works,’” Abbaspur stated.
“She also said, ‘I now realize that I have made good use of my life,’” he added.
