TEHRAN – An exhibition of paintings by New York-based Bangladeshi painter Khurshid Alam Saleem opened Friday at Tehran’s Hoom Gallery.

An abstract expressionist, Saleem concentrates on pure forms and compositions where deep red, emerald green, bright yellow, burning crimson and soothing sapphire have been applied in thick overlapping layers.

Khurshid Alam Saleem runs the New York Art Connection, a Contemporary Art Center located in Long Island, New York, curator Laleh Shamsi told the Persian service of ISNA on Thursday.

The New York Art Connection hosted a group exhibition of paintings by Iranian artists curated by Hoom Gallery in January 2014, she added.

Born in 1951 in Mymensingh, Saleem graduated in drawing and painting from the University of Dhaka. He took a special course in advanced color print at New York University.

He has held several solo and group exhibitions in different parts of the world and has received a number of prestigious awards.

Saleem was awarded an Olympic medal and torch as an invited artist from the U.S. at the Beijing Olympics 2008.

The exhibit will be running until July 22 at the gallery located at No.2, 4th Alley, off Qaem Maqam St.
