TEHRAN -- An opera entitled “The Doll behind the Curtain”, based on a short story of the same title written by the Iranian author Sadeq Hedayat (1903-1951), will go on stage in London in July.
The performance is the second act of the two-act opera, which will go on stage at the Cockpit Theater on July 6.
The first act of “The Doll behind Curtain” was performed at the theater on October 27, 2013.
The Iranian musician Amir-Mahyar Tafreshipur composed the musical score for the opera.
The opera will be directed by Maya Sapone, who is the daughter of a Thai mother and Italian father. The libretto has been written by English actor Dominic Power.
“The Doll behind the Curtain” is the story of a Paris-based Iranian student named Mehrdad, who is fascinated by a mannequin in a shop in Paris. He buys the mannequin and brings it with him to Iran, which leads to some tragic events for him and his family.
The opera is produced by the Chamber Opera in London in collaboration with Second Movement Company.
