TEHRAN – Iran’s Sadi Foundation is seeking approval from Tajikistan’s cultural officials to hold courses to teach Persian script at schools and universities in the country in the near future.

“We need to hold courses to teach Persian script, because most of the books in Tajikistan are written in Cyrillic,” the deputy director of the foundation for international affairs, Mohammadreza Darbandi, told the Persian service of ISNA on Monday.

The foundation will be negotiating with the government of Tajikistan to reach an agreement, he added.

Aiming to promote the Persian language in different countries, the foundation will be developing its activities in Persian-speaking regions, he said.

“Foreign scholars teaching Persian language in other countries need to refresh their knowledge of Persian language and literature. Students also need to have more complete information,” he added.

Darbandi also said that Indian scholars and students have been asked to travel to Iran to attend Persian language and literature courses.

“We also plan to hold Persian courses in India for students and scholars,” he added.
