TEHRAN -- Iranian director Arash Lahuti has won the Best Emerging International Filmmaker Award for his acclaimed film “Trucker and the Fox” at the Open City Docs Fest in London.

The festival, London’s global documentary film event, was held from June 17 to 22.

“Trucker and the Fox” opens with our protagonist, the filmmaker and truck driver Mahmud Kiani Falavarjani, in a psychiatric hospital diagnosed with bipolar disorder and suffering from inconsolable grief over the death of his pet fox – the star of his award-winning short “The Raven and the Fox”.

His doctor encourages him to move on and Kiani starts to make a new film: a donkey romance.

This film has been acclaimed at many international events. It won the Gold Hugo Award for best documentary at the 49th Chicago International Film Festival in October 2013, and the Students’ Jury Award at the 11th International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in Kyiv, Ukraine in March 2014.

“Iranian Ninja” directed by Marjan Riahi, “My Name Is Negahdar Jamali and I Make Westerns” by Kamran Heidari and “Window into Tehran” by Iman Behruzi were other Iranian films that went on screen during the event.
