TEHRAN – Director and comedian actor Akbar Abdi plans to stage the Azeri musical comedy “If Not That One, Then This One”, also known as “Mashadi Ibad”, in both the Persian and Azeri languages in Tehran this spring.

“Mashadi Ibad” is an operetta in four acts written by Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov in 1910. This comedy reflects the society and everyday life relations in prerevolutionary Azerbaijan.

Two young brothers will be collaborating as composers and the actors have been chosen from “Tehran” theater troupes, Abdi told the Persian service of MNA on Sunday.

“We have also signed a contract with a theater which is run by the managers of Iran’s Simorgh Hotel,” he added.

“I have long wished to stage a play but I had to postpone it because I was always involved in different cinema projects,” Abdi mentioned.

Abdi was given the supporting actor award for his portrayal of an old woman in “I Need Sleep”, a comedy drama directed by actor/director Reza Attaran in 2012.

He has acted in many movies and TV series directed by famous directors such as Ali Hatami in “Mother” and Davud Mirbaqeri in “Snowman”.
