TEHRAN – Tehran’s Art Bureau will publish an Arabic translation of a selection of works by the father of Iranian blank verse poetry, Nima Yushij (1896-1960), in Arab countries in the near future.
The book will be completed within the next few weeks and is due to be published by the bureau, the director of the bureau’s Arab Department, Musa Bidaj, told the Persian service of MNA on Saturday.
The department also plans to publish a collection of Persian modern poems translated into Arabic. The collection will be published in Egypt.
Born Ali Esfandiari in Yush, Mazandaran Province, Yushij attended primary school in his birth place and later came to Tehran to continue his studies.
He began writing poetry when he was a high school student. The person who encouraged him by reading his poems and helping him to improve his versification was one of his teachers, Nezam Vafa (1883-1960), himself a lyric poet.
What made Yushij a great, powerful guru for the young poets of his time was his innovations in form and style rather than the content of his poetry.
Yushij died of pneumonia in the Shemiran neighborhood in Tehran, but was buried in Yush, as he had willed.
