He shot the film during the 66th Cannes Film Festival in May 2013. The film spotlights the contrast between the celebrities who are excessively concerned about their costume designs, and the people whose main concern is only cinema, when they step on the red carpet at the prestigious film gala.
Part of the film focuses on the behavior of Iranian guests of the Cannes festival.
“In the film, you see that the foreign guests of the festival behave like what we do. The film doesn’t mock anybody,” Attaran said in press conference held after the premiere of his film at the 32nd Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran on Friday.
About 200 actors appear in the film, but only six of them know that they are acting in the production, he stated.
Attaran has written the screenplay based on a plot by producer Ahmad Ahmadi.
“I got the idea for making the film few years ago when I attended the Cannes festival,” Ahmadi said at the press conference.
“I thought what would happen on the red carpet if we have a character whose main concern is cinema beside many others who only think of their appearance and attire,” he added.
Attaran plays the main character in the film.
“The main character of the film is very close to the real character of Attaran. He enjoys the simplicity the character has in the film,” Ahmadi said.
“Attaran’s directorship and acting give weight to the film, and all attempts to make the film would be fruitless if we were to ignore him in any one of the positions,” he added.
