TEHRAN – An exhibition of photos highlighting designs by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) some other urban areas in the country will open at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran on February 12.

Entitled “A Gentler Structure for Life”, the photos are taken by Aalto’s compatriot, Maija Holma, and the Iranian photographers Najmeh Motalaei and Ehsan Ranjbar, the IAF has announced on its website.

The photos include Finland Hall, Helsinki University of Technology, Villa Mairea, and Aalto’ s own home in Helsinki.

The exhibit is part of the programs arranged for the Finland Cultural Week running from February 12 to 19.

The exhibit has taken its name from the book “A Gentler Structure for Life”, which celebrates the 1998 centenary of Alvar Aalto’s birth.

It is not the most comprehensive book on his work, but it is without question the most sumptuous and poetic book.

The text was written by Marku Lahtti, former director of the Alvar Alto Museum and the photos were taken by Maija Holma especially for the book in 1997.

The event has been organized by the Embassy of Finland in Tehran in collaboration with the forum.
