TEHRAN -- Three Iranian films are competing in the Chicago International Film Festival, which opened on October 11.

“Modest Reception” directed by Mani Haqiqi, “Meeting Leila” by Adel Yaraqi and “Under the Colors” by Esmaeil Monsef are on the screening schedules of the festival’s various sections.

Haqiqi’s recent film “Modest Reception” is an entry in the main competition section.

The film is about a well-situated couple who drive through the mountains distributing plastic bags full of money to every poor and unfortunate person they meet.

“Meeting Leila” has been accepted in the New Directors Competition Section.

The film is about a young woman who demands her chain-smoking fiancé to quit smoking before their marriage. This poses a problem for his fiancé, an advertising agent for whom smoking is an integral part of his creative process.

“Under the Colors” will be screened in the Shorts 5: Spotlight Middle East -- Shadows and Light Section.

The film is about a mysterious female garment, which is found in a soldier’s garrison, and dealing with the situation proves trickier than expected.

“Like Someone in Love”, a French-Japanese joint production by Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, will also be screened in the main competition section of the festival, which runs until October 25.

The French MK2 film company has purchased the world distribution copyright of the film, which premiered at Cannes 2012.

The Chicago International Film Festival is the longest-running competitive film event in North America. The Festival was started in 1964 by filmmaker Michael Kutza to provide an alternative to the commercial Hollywood movies that dominated the city’s theaters.
