Islamic Radio and Television Union to wrap up sixth session today

TEHRAN -- The sixth session of the General Assembly of the Islamic Radio and Television Union will close today at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) International Conference Hall.
 
Over 280 participants from 35 countries are attending the three-day assembly which opened on Sunday, the union website has announced.
 
Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, director of the union Hojjatoleslam Ali Karimian, and a group of radio and television directors coming from the Islamic countries were among the participants at the opening ceremony.
 
Opening the session, Karimian made a brief speech in which he pointed to the Islamic Awakening and the Islamic resistance of nations as major tools in leading the Zionist regime toward the end of its life.
 
Larijani also delivered a short speech and praised the Islamic Radio and Television Union members for their solidarity.
 
“There are great numbers of unions in the world, but most of them only talk and do not take action, however members of this union are united,” he said.
 
Meetings of the participating members of the radio and TV directors, and screening short films with the central theme of the Islamic Awakening for the participants were among the programs of the first day of the assembly.
 
A selection of productions from member and non-member countries went on show in the fourth Islamic Film Market, which also opened on Sunday. 
 
In addition, several lectures were arranged for the second day on Monday.
 
Fouad al-Ibrahim, a London-based opponent of the Saudi regime, Omar al-Shahed from Tunisia, Magdy Ahmed Hussein, a leading opponent of the Egyptian government, Mohsen Saleh, a political analyst from Lebanon and Abdul Aziz Ghaffar from Pakistan are among the special guests attending the third day of the session today.
 
Ali Akbar Velayati, the senior advisor to the Supreme Leader, is the special guest of honor who is due to make a speech on Islamic Awakening.
 
The assembly will wrap up with brief speeches by several radio and TV directors from the member countries today.
