TEHRAN – A statue promoting peace was set up in Tehran on Monday to adorn the metropolis, which is currently playing host to the 16th Non-Aligned Movement summit.

Tehran Municipality’s Beautification Organization installed “The Lady of Peace” in the courtyard of Milad Tower as part of its preparations for the NAM summit.

Made of white travertine, the 3-meter high statue shows a woman holding an olive twig in her right hand.

It has been designed and sculpted by Mohammad Beikzadeh, Director of the Sculpture Department of the organization Mojtaba Musavi told the Persian service of IRNA.

In addition, the organization has also set up six statues of various Iranian ethnic groups on the main streets and the venues where NAM foreign guests are most likely to pass by, he said.

So far, the organization has made ten large-sized logos for the summit and erected them in all directions along routes leading to IRIB’s International Conference Center and the Summit Conference Hall, the venues hosting the NAM summit until Friday.
